[edit] Clan Origins (History)

Many months ago, a Jedi Knight 2 dueling clan was created by a player by the name of JasaWani. He called the clan Big Bad Mother ****ing Jedis--(BBMJ). In time, JasaWani came to be inactive in his leadership role. Therefore, the helm of leadership was passed on to Felix-BH, who provided a server for the clan to play on. Chris Obi-One and Dugster soon joined Felix in leadership.

(BBMJ) was a great success, along with its dueling server, BBMJ 24/7. The clan grew in popularity, and many players defected from other clans to join its growing ranks. As the pool of members grew, one or two rogue members plotted its downfall. They began a campaign to discredit its members and to cause disruption to its games and ideas. Due to the stress of the complications, the clan Angels of Vengeance, (AoV), was formed. (AoV) was comprised of former members of (BBMJ) who broke off due to a discrepancy involving a certain member at the time. Later, a complication involving the ideals and core values of (BBMJ) caused a rift in the clan. Because of these conflicts, the members of (BBMJ) decided to split into two separate clans. The current leadership (at the time) of (BBMJ) (Felix-BH, Chris Obi-One, and Dugster [Later renaming to TsuNAmi]) decided to break off and lead the daughter clan. They wanted to form this new alliance under the banner of friendship, honor, and fun. They were successful, and decided to name their new clan The New Alliance - (TNA).

(BBMJ), which was now under the leadership of (BBMJ)Alboulcan, continued to remain closely allied with (TNA). Both clans were very friendly to each other, and even shared a server. However, as time went on, things began to happen. Member interest began to dwindle, and the server was beginning to coat with dust. At this time, it was suggested that the clans needed each other. After hearing the proposition, both clans embraced the idea. They decided to pool their resources, and reform the old bonds that had been separated during the break.

Henceforth, on the night of Friday, November 15th, 2002, both sets of members decided they would be one clan again. They decided to accept the new by declaring themselves members of a renewed alliance. Thus, they all adopted The New Alliance as their identity. The members of (BBMJ) changed their tags to (TNA), and all the old friends stood strong once more, each vowing that their new alliance would not repeat the mistakes of the past. They vowed to stand stalwart and united.

On Friday, November 15th, 2002, (BBMJ) officially died.

The Angels of Death and Stro's Alliance. As time went on, normal clan business continued. Eventually, a player by the name of Stro came to become a member of the High Council. Stro was a highly respected member of (TNA), and to this day is still considered one of its greatest leaders. Stro wanted (TNA) to ally with a much larger clan, AOD, which was a multi-branch clan with several hundred members. Although it is not determined if Stro wanted an alliance or, as some suggested, a merge, the issue did cause problems. He was accused of trying to merge (TNA) with AOD.

Due to this issue, many problems soon incurred on the forums and at clan meetings. "Flame sessions", arguments, and a general state of confusion and uneasiness incurred in The New Alliance. It caused many problems. In the end, however, (TNA) and AOD neither merged, nor allied, and Stro left to join AOD. Eventually, he became a high-ranking member in AOD, and since last heard of, was doing very well in the Angels of Death. The issues caused by Stro's alliance, however, left bad blood that would eventually lead to (TNA)'s first major split...

Bound by Honor. With the death of (BBMJ) came renewed life to (TNA), and its members. The pooling of resources and members nearly doubled the number of (TNA) members. However, things were not boding well for The New Alliance. The large member increase, as well as the addition of the competitively based "gladiators" and "pyramid" matches, the padawanship system, and the recent problems caused by Stro's alliance were a large burden for The New Alliance to take. Soon, the ideals that (TNA) had been built on began to diminish: (TNA) became very strict in its new membership policy, and attaining ranks became an increasingly important goal for many members. Because of the strictness, however, (TNA) soon loosened its reins. (TNA) soon took in a swell of new recruits. Many of these recruits were not well tested, and their character was questionable. The family feeling that (TNA) prided itself so strongly within soon began to disappear.

(TNA)'s large member roster soon became a major concern. As the list of players grew, so did the number of lamers playing on the server. It got to a point where people who were not even (TNA) recruits were posing as padawans on the server, causing problems and inciting arguments. Due to this, many jedi-ranked members were given RCON abilities. However, this did not work well either. Many of the newer members, of questionable character, began to abuse their RCON powers. The RCON powers were then removed from the lower-ranking members. Many were not pleased. The vying for rank, competitive games, swell of members, lamers on the server, RCON abusers, and the recent bad blood from the Stro incident finally boiled over: the members of (TNA) realized that the clan they were in was not the (TNA) that they joined.

A group of (TNA) members, led by TsuNAmi, Jadedone, Nimrod, and Anubis, left (TNA) and formed Bound by Honor, whose tag was =:BBH:=. The remnants of (TNA) were left battered and bruised, with a very low number of members left. The few members left over from the huge =:BBH:= split were led primarily by two members--YellowSnow*God and MaGnUs. Because of their hard work and dedication to (TNA) and its members, they kept the clan alive when it was in its darkest hour. The hard times eventually passed, and things more or less returned to the norm.

The End of Jedi Knight 2 and the Beginning of Jedi Academy With a renewed sense of purpose in their endeavors once again, the members of The New Alliance pressed on after the tough =:BBH:= split. After the split, the forums (containing all the arguments, as well as the prior history) were cleared off and restarted, in a symbolic act of rebirth. Within the 6 month period from the time of the =:BBH:= split to the beginning of Jedi Academy, (in September 2003) (TNA) experienced a relative time of ease and stability. There were little to no problems; the problems that did persist were usually easily taken care of, with little repercussion.

During this time (TNA) slowly began to rebuild its member roster, sticking around 30, more or less. This was also an important time, as well. (TNA) was now being led by a group of members who did not initially form the clan. Many of the original members kept themselves in touch, but few would even consider returning to (TNA). This meant that with the incoming release of the JK2 sequel, Jedi Academy, the new leadership would have some tough decisions to make, as well as issues deriving from the JA switch to deal with, regarding the well being of (TNA). In the end, there were no problems, and the Jedi Academy transition was overall smooth sailing. However, the Jedi Academy experience itself was soon to bring new issues to The New Alliance...

The Departure of Felix-BH. December 15th 2003. This is a date that will forever remain in the halls of (TNA) history. On this day, Felix-BH, after 6 months of avid inactivity, finally departed from (TNA). The notice was given in an excellent departure letter, written by Felix' father, fellow (TNA)-founder TsuNAmi. In the letter, TsuNAmi expressed his deepest sympathies for having to let go of (TNA), after so much hardship. He also expressed how disappointed Felix was with the situation. TsuNAmi officially turned the administration of the old (TNA) website over to MaGnUs, and Felix' spot on the HC was for the first time in (TNA) history, officially empty.

With this sad thread however, came great comfort: words of encouragement from a great and former leader of (TNA), TsuNAmi: "In closing I wish MaGnUs, the High Council, Council, Master Jedi's and members the very best of luck. The New Alliance is, without doubt, the greatest success in the Jedi Knight gamers world. Good luck to you all. Best Regards, Doug". The great work TsuNAmi, Felix, and Obi-One did for (TNA) will always be remembered, no matter where they allow their lives to take them. The New Alliance owes an eternal debt of gratitude to these great, honorable, and perdurable members of (TNA).

Morpheus[SS}, and the Knights of Darkness. The beginning of Jedi Academy, for some time, was for (TNA) a very placid time. Member recruitment was steady, and member departure was due more to personal reasons and inactivity rather than major clan issues. However, that all changed the day a player named "The Game" entered the server. Game's initial "incentive" was to warn (TNA) about a "spy" within its ranks, a spy on a mission from clan [*KoD*}, Knights of Darkness, to infiltrate (TNA) and cause problems. The members in the server at the time of Game's revelation were quite skeptical, although the possibility was not totally purged. Many questioned the premise because (TNA) had no prior contact with KoD.

Game continued to come around the server from time to time over the next few weeks, changing his name, eventually, to Morpheus[SS]. During this time, the server IP of KoD was discovered, and several (TNA) headed to the KoD server to find out exactly what was going on. Upon entering with their tags, they were promptly admin abused and kicked from the server. It was obvious that Morpheus had, to an extent at least, been telling the truth. The situation soon escalated when it was revealed that a current (TNA) applicant, Squall, was in fact the very spy Morpheus had warned (TNA) about-- [*KoD*]Sephiroth. The situation continued downhill as time went on. Morpheus himself applied to (TNA), but was never accepted. When asked where he had come from, and why he had helped (TNA) in the situation, he simply stated that he was a former member of KoD, had been wronged by the leadership, and wanted revenge.He continued to play on the server and post on the forums regularly for some time, until a night of revelation came about...

Late one night, Morpheus entered the server to find only 2 members playing at the time, Revan and DarkSide. He challenged them to several duels, and was promptly defeated. He praised (TNA) for its skill, and stated that he was pleased with the current situation with KoD. He began to drive a conversation, which lasted several hours. In the conversation, he spoke of his life philosophy, of his beliefs of human nature, atheism, and morality. The conversation continued, until Morpheus began making strange references. He began trying to confuse the (TNA) members of his true intent; he began making strange comments about the situation in general. By the end of the conversation, [SS] had been kicked from the server, and his behavior reported on the forums. He soon began his own thread, explaining the entire situation: he wanted all-out clan war between KoD and (TNA). He, in fact, did not desire the destruction of either clan. His true intent was display the frailties of human nature, and how through societal banding, one, such as himself, could control people, and bend their will to his whim. He had been playing both clans for fools. He falsified the entire situation to prove his point, and in fact was a member of KoD, [*KoD*]Battousai. He of course showed no true allegiance to the clan, and had been using his position within KoD to help influence the problems from both sides of the court.

In the end, and after nearly 70 replies to his admittance thread, he took his leave, and has been seen only once, briefly, since.

The legend of the DarkSide With the dark days behind us, (TNA) continued in the years following to be a place where friends were brought together to fight for their lives in the arena. One of the most important people responsible for the longevity of (TNA) will here officially be recorded as being (TNA)DarkSide. A pillar of what (TNA) represents, was always destined for great things within the clan since his joining in 2003. And as such we give him his legacy here.

In July 2006, after years of devoted service, (TNA)DarkSide chose to step down from his leadership position due to real life obligations. (TNA) would not have been where it is today, if it would even be at all, without the help of (TNA)DarkSide. And thus we salute him. Wish him all the best and raise this as a plaque to his accomplishments in, and for, The New Alliance.

[edit] Server Rules

Rule 1 - Always have fun: This is a demand punishable by tickling if you don't. (TNA) is about having fun. That means having fun even if we have to force you to like it =-)

Rule 2 - Respect your fellow combatants: No laming or noobing. This includes, but is not limited to: attacking a player who is chatting, attacking a player with an unignited lightsaber, attacking a player who is obviously away from keyboard, and blitzing (coming from a non agressive stance into an attack during duels). This rule applies to lightsabers, guns, explosives, and melee attacks.

Rule 3 - Bowing: Always bow before a duel. Use either the Jedi Knight 2 style of pressing "C" to crouch and bow, or use Jedi Academy's in-game bowing emote. A nod of the head will not suffice for a bow.

Rule 4 - Behaviour: Refrain from cursing, cussing, swearing, or seriously insulting other players while on any (TNA) server. Please refrain from discriminating against other groups of people on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, "race", age, nationality, religion, or any other sort of defining factor. The New Alliance in no way approves of such behavior. Should you wish to use inappropriate language or discriminatory comments, please keep it within the confines of private chat, and also be sure that the person you're speaking with approves of you using that language.

Rule 5 - Respecting Admin: Please respect, within reason, the decisions and requests of any and all (TNA) admins while playing on a (TNA) server.

Rule 6 - Harrasment: Do not harass the newbies simply because they're new. We were all new at one point in time.

Rule 7 - Recruitement: Only (TNA) members may recruit on (TNA) servers. This stipulation also includes private chat, which also should not be used for recruiting except by (TNA), on the (TNA) servers.

Addendum: When tryouts and testing are taking place, the Server will be passworded for a private session and all those not involved must leave the server.

If any player, (TNA) or otherwise is not following the rules, then an admin must firstly issue that person with one warning. If they still persist they will be kicked. Should a kicked player return to the server and continue to cause disruptions, they will be restrained to the full extent of the current admin's ability. Should a High Council member be present/called to the scene, they may issue a ban command on the offending player. Server IP: 70.86.167.24:29070

[edit] Clan Ranks

(TNA) Member Rank Descriptions The ranks of (TNA) all hold specific rights and priviliges. This is a description of all the ranks.

Administration: The members in this rank may participate in any branch(es). Their duties are mainly administrative and involve the clan as a whole rather than a branch of group of branches. Their jobs include:

   * Maintaining a clan website/forum.
   * Passing any amendments to clan rules.
   * Maintaining order amongst the branches/assisting with individual branch difficulties if the need arises settling/assisting with disputes that:
         o Can not be handled by the branch HC.
         o Are amongst members of different branches.
         o Are amongst members of branch HC's.
         o Involve other clans.
   * Helping with financial difficulties in the event that a branch that requires a clan server to play needs assistance keeping its server up.
         o The Administration or the clan at large is not responsible to indefinetly pay for an individual branch's server.
         o Issues that arise from MMO bills will have to be individually discussed with the branch member(s) and Aministration.
         o Only in the most serious situations should the Administration or the clan at large be called upon for financial aid.

In regards to new branches of the clan:

   * All new branches must be approved by the Administration before they are allowed to be conceived.
   * The rules and procedures of any new branch need to be approved by the Administration before they are made official.
   * The first HC of a branch is chosen by the Administration.

In regards to the authority of the Administration:

The Administration is the highest rank in the clan. Ultimately, all stipulations and decisions in the clan can be made, changed or reversed by the Administration. However:

   * The Administration exists to support and serve the clan, not to dominate it and its members. On this note:
         o The Administration, although having the highest authority, is advised to remain objective and distanced from the governing of individual branches. The only exception to this is if a member of the Administration is also a member of the leadership of a branch.
         o In regards to the individual doings of a branch, the Administration is to remain solely as an advisory staff. They are to intercede only if it is of the highest necessity.
   * The branch authority of an Administrator who is also a HC member is equal to that of a HC member for that branch; an Administrator who is also a HC member does not have more authority than his or her HC cohorts for that branch. This is to ensure that the HC's lead the branches, not one member with higher authority.
   * An Administrator who is a member of a certain branch but who is not part of its leadership structure functions as a HC Advisor for that branch. He/she is allowed and, to a discernable degree, expected to give input and assistance to the HC of the branch that he/she plays in. However:
         o In consideration of branch-only decisions, the Administrator in question's "vote" is equal to that of a standard member; he/she is only to be involved in the deciding factor(s) of the decision process if the general membership is also allowed.
               + The point in bullet C1 should rarely be bypassed. It can, though: in special circumstances and at the whim of the branch HC.
         o In consideration of the trialing process, an Administrator who is not a HC of a branch can, at the request of the branch HC, function as the arbiter at a Probate, Member, or Elite Member trial. This option should be avoided if possible, though.

In regards to the election of new members to the Administration:

   * The Administration chooses its own members.
         o Members of the Administration need to have been the HC of one branch for a sustatained period of 3 months. This requires that they also were a member of the branch's Council for a sustained period of 3 months and also a member of the branch's general membership for a sustained period of 3 months. This adds up to a total membership of at least 9 months before a member of the clan can be promoted to the Administration. (This amount of time is not influenced by the length of a member's probationary period)
               + This guideline should generally not be taken out of consideration, although, as noted above, the full authority of the Administration allows it to bypass this guideline at its will.
   * The "term" of an Administrator ends when:
         o They are removed from the position by a majority vote of their peers on the Administration.
         o They are removed from the clan by a majority vote of their peers on the Administration.
         o They leave according to their own will.

High Council The members of this rank are charged with the governing of a specific branch. Their duties are aimed at the maintenance and growth of the branch in which they lead. Their jobs include:

   * Generally moderating the forums and specifically organizing information on forums pertaining to their branch.
   * Passing amendments to branch rules (requires Administrative notification.)
   * Maintaining branch order, caring for branch difficulties, settling/assisting with disputes between branch members.
         o Issues that need to have Administrative input/notification include:
               + Issues that can not be handled by the branch HC.
               + Issues amongst members of different branches.
               + Issues amongst members of branch HC's (regardless of branch.)
               + Involve other clans.
   * Making sure the branch has a server to play on (if applicable.)
         o The Administration or the clan at large is not responsible to indefinetly pay for an individual branch's server.
         o Only in the most serious situations should the Administration or the clan at large be called upon for financial aid.
   * Maintaining in-game order by being reasonably present in-game and assigning branch/server admins.
   * Accepting/denying branch applicants.
   * Promoting/demoting branch members.
         o Demotion of a HC member requires Administrative notification/input and will be further detailed at the end of this outline.
   * Professing over trial processes. I: Removing branch members.
         o Removal of a HC member requires Administrative notification/input and will be further detailed at the end of this outline.

In regards to new branches of the clan:

   * All new branches must be approved by the Administration before they are allowed to be conceived.
   * The rules and procedures of any new branch need to be approved by the Administration before they are made official.
   * The first HC of a branch is chosen by the Administration.

In regards to the authority of High Council members: The High Councils are ranked second in the clan. However, unless otherwise stated, their authority is branch-specific. To elaborate:

   * A HC in "Branch A" who is a standard member in "Branch B" is a HC Advisor for that branch. He/she is allowed and, to a discernable degree, expected to give input and assistance to the HC of the branch that he/she plays in. However:
         o In consideration of branch-only decisions, the HC of Branch A in question's "vote" is equal to that of a standard member; he/she is only to be involved in the deciding factor(s) of the decision process if the general membership is also allowed.
               + The point in bullet A1 should rarely be bypassed. It can, though: in special circumstances and at the whim of the branch HC.
         o In consideration of the trialing process, the HC of Branch A can, at the request of the Branch B HC, function as the arbiter at a Probate, Member, or Elite Member trial. This option should be avoided if possible, though.

In regards to the election of new members to a High Council:

   * The Administration chooses the "launch HC" of a new branch.
   * The HC of a standing branch chooses its own members.
         o Members of a HC need to have been Council of that branch for a sustatained period of 3 months. This requires that they also were a member of the branch's general membership for a sustained period of 3 months. This adds up to a total membership of at least 6 months before a member of the branch can be promoted to the High Council. (This amount of time is not influenced by the length of a member's probationary period).
               + This guideline should generally not be taken out of consideration, although, as noted above, the full authority of the Administration allows it to bypass this guideline at its will. Additionally, subjective discernment should be used to make decisions in this and all matters.
   * The "term" of a HC member ends when:
         o They are removed from the position by the Administration.
         o They are removed from the clan by the Administration.
         o They are removed from the position by a majority vote of their peers on the HC (requires Administrative notification/input.)
         o They are removed from the clan by a majority vote of their peers on the HC (requires Administrative notification/input.)
         o They leave according to their own will.

High Council Advisor: High Council Advisors are unique members. They are long-time members with great knowledge of the clan's governance, clan history and clan policy. They have the right of access to all sections of (TNA) forums and to all sanctums of (TNA) knowledge, but in ascertaining that, they abdicate the right to take an active role in voting and movement of new policy. They can not vote or take action in any event that a standard member of (TNA) can not.

The High Council Advisors are trusted members who have proven their dedication to (TNA) and to this community, regardless of what games this clan may or may not play. They are wise and intelligent, and their opinions on key issues are valuable.

Although not a requirement, they usually are members who, for one reason or another, are inactive in-game while still holding a dedication to this clan. Therefore, their time and energy is diverted into making sure that the rest of The New Alliance community is growing and gathering the same memories that they have had the opportunity to gather.

The High Council chooses who the High Council Advisors are, based on the criteria already listed. There are no official rules of who can and can not be a High Council Advisor, at least at this time.

Members under this classification can be neither Council nor High Council. Master Jedi status is not annulled by taking this rank. Council: The members of this rank are charged to assist the HC with the governing of a specific branch. Their duties are aimed at the maintenance and growth of the branch in which they moderate. Their jobs include:

   * Generally moderating the forums and specifically organizing information on forums pertaining to their branch.
   * Maintaining branch order, caring for branch difficulties, settling/assisting with disputes between branch members.
   * Issues that need to have HC input/notification include:
         o Issues amongst members of different branches.
         o Issues amongst members of the Council.
         o Issues that involve other clans.
         o Issues that can not be handled by the Council.
               + The Council and High Council should generally be in communication.
   * Maintaining in-game order by being reasonably present in-game.
   * Offering advice to the HC upon request/the notice of something that needs attention.
         o The HC, being busy with running the branch and other issues, may not notice certain things that someone with less responsibility may. It is important for Council members to always be striving for improvement in the branch and clan.

In regards to new branches of the clan:

   * The first Council of a branch is chosen by the Administration.
         o Depending on the size of the launch team, branches may not necessarily start with a Council.

In regards to the authority of Council members:

The Councils are ranked third in the clan. However, unless otherwise stated, their authority is branch-specific. To elaborate:

   * A Council in "Branch A" who is a standard member in "Branch B" is simply a member of "Branch B".

In regards to the election of new members to a Council:

   * The Administration chooses the "launch Council" of a new branch.
   * The HC of a standing branch chooses new Council members.
         o The Council (as a group and/or as individuals) can make promotion suggestions to the HC if they so choose.
         o Members of a Council need to have been part of the general membership of that branch for a sustatained period of 3 months. This adds up to a total membership of at least 3 months before a member of the branch can be promoted to the Council.
   * The "term" of a Council member ends when:
         o They are removed from the position by the Administration.
         o They are removed from the clan by the Administration.
         o They are removed from the position by the HC.
         o They are removed from the clan by the HC.
         o They leave according to their own will.

General Members: These members are the backbone of the clan. They are not responsible for many duties, but they are charged to remain as honorable representatives of (TNA). General members:

   * Are to be actively involved in the both the branch they play in and the clan. This includes:
         o Being present on the forums and in-game.
         o Being up-to-date on clan doings.
         o Contributing to important discussions.
         o Voting on issues when asked.
   * Have completed a minimum 1-month probationary period in their branch and have passed a full membership trial.
   * Watch over probates by teaching them about TNA and reporting problems with probates to the person or people responsible for them.
   * Communicate problems or general issues to the Council and HC of their branch; active progress requires adaptation to new things.
   * Are fully acquainted with the rules of (TNA) and at least partially acquainted with its government.
   * Are actively improving their skills and knowledge.
   * Are familiar with the trial process of the branch they play in and are ready and able to participate in a trial if necessary.
   * The "term" of a member ends when:
         o They are removed by the Administration.
         o They are removed by the HC.
         o They leave according to their own will.

Probates: Probates are members who have not yet attained full membership. They are on a "trial run" with the clan to see if they mesh well with TNA. The minimum length of a probationary period is 1 month. There is no maximum length.

The individual criteria for a probationary period varies depending on which branch the probate is a part of. But generally, probationary members are charged to be:

   * Actively playing and training.
   * Actively learning about (TNA). This includes but is not limited to:
         o Rules
         o Procedures
         o Ranks
         o History
   * Actively communicating on the forums.

Probates are expected to be well-behaved, honorable and decent people. People who exhibit the following qualities or take part in the following actions will most likely be very quickly removed from the clan:

   * Lack of interest or activity in the clan.
   * Lack of patience.
   * Lack of respect.
   * Lack of dedication.
   * Lack of courtesy.
   * Lack of honesty.
   * Any behavior that would have one labeled a "jerk."

The full member trialing of a probate is dependent upon the whim of the branch leadership and the guidelines of the branch.
