When moving in duels, you should always move to the left when closer to the opponent, as this will make pokes harder to hit you and generally most attacks weaker. When attempting a poke yourself, move right briefly to initiate a Right Attack poke and then left again.
In duels, acrobatics should be watched carefully. Do not jump unnecessarily, as it causes you to lose directional control (sorry, but you just can't run on air). Delayed attacks using jumps are OK, and well timed jump attacks, but never backflip in FFA's or against Staff or Dual saber users. They are faster and can get an attack on you while you are motionless. Good Red duelists also no to jump attack you when you do this, and can kill you instantly, and not only will they probably combine it with a poke, but you are also flipping around, allowing the opponent to hit you all over (MEGA damage). It is hard to break this habit of jumping away from attacks so if you are new pay close attention to this.
Run up wall backflips are OK also in sticky situations, but should not be used in close areas, or when the opponent is not directly behind you. Also, end the move quickly, don't wait until you get all the way to the top and the move automatically finishes. Get a delayed attack ready in case the opponent predicts this maneuver and plans to attack you on the touchdown.
Lastly, always avoid strafe jumping to the right of your opponent when they attack you with Right Attack. You will usually be hit pretty bad if he pokes or even if he doesn't. Not poking can still result in 40+ damage, as you cannot control yourself in the air.
