Dual Sabers

From JAWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Fast and powerful, the dual saber style employs one standard lightsaber in each hand to deliver attacks with two blades at once. The nature of the twin-bladed system leads to several noteable advantages and disadvantages when wielding duals, and dual saber users also have the option of deactivating the saber in the left hand to take on a secondary, weaker stance. Brief descriptions of the primary and secondary dual stances are provided below.

[edit] Primary Dual Saber Stance (Strong Yellow)

The true twin-saber stance, dual stance has the speed of single yellow and the potential to do damage on the level of single red. When using this stance, one saber is held in each hand, and most dual saber attacks utilize both sabers striking at nearly the same time. This coupled with the natural quickness of the dual style can lead to massive amounts of damage depending on the method of attack used (note that some multiplayer servers have modified damages that weaken the power of dual saber attacks). Dual saber stance also has an infinite attack limit, meaning that attacks can be chained together indefinitely, an attribute shared only by the saber staff. However, because the sabers are held each in only one hand, dual sabers are one of the easiest styles to parry and are capable of being overpowered by single red stance and certain attacks of the saber staff style. Even single saber yellow is capable of exploiting the parry weakness of duals, though this is fairly difficult to accomplish with default damage settings. Because of this weakness, many players find difficulty in using dual sabers effectively, and truly skilled dual saberists tend to be extremely rare. In terms of Force powers and other weapons, however, dual sabers have two important advantages. The first, when using the Saber Throw Force power, only one of the two sabers is thrown, which leaves the second in hand to be used for attack or defense. No other saber type has this ability. Dual sabers are also the most effective of all saber types at deflecting incoming blaster attacks, as the two sabers provide a maximal defensive coverage. In the Star Wars universe, those who practice dual saber combat employ the Jar'Kai form, which can only be mastered after learning the Niman form.

[edit] Secondary Dual Saber Stance (Weak Blue)

When the left-handed saber is deactivated, dual saber stance becomes nearly identical to single saber blue stance with only two notable difference. First, the dual saber version of single blue stance cannot do a kata move; only with both sabers active can a dual saberist use a kata. Second, the forward attack of dual saber blue is a leftward horizontal swipe, whereas with single saber blue, the forward and stationary attacks are both downward scratching cuts. Dual saber blue stance can only do this downward cut by moving backwards and attacking, or by remaining stationary and attacking. However, with the ability to toggle the second saber at will, dual saber blue attacks can be converted into dual saber yellow (regulare dual stance) attacks in certain ways. The second saber, can be deactivated or reactivated at any time, even midway through an attack or special move, which has led some players to adopt a dual saber "conversion style," where the quickness of the blue stance is used to place an attack with the right timing, and then the second saber is activated before the attack is complete to convert the blue stance attack into a dual saber yellow stance attack, increasing damage. A style like this is advocated due to its ability to overcome some of the natural problems dual saber stance has with parry, but some players claim this is an exploit that detracts from the spirit and intent of the game, similar to "poking" with single saber. For those who do use this kind of attack, their style matches that of the Trakata form in Star Wars terminology.
