Modifications, or 'mods' for short, are usually client designed custom adaptions to the game, such as environments (maps), models (players and objects), and weapons, amongst other things such as code adaption.
The most popular place to get these mods is a place called FileFront. For JK3, their site is called www.jk3files.com.
