Single Saber

From JAWiki

Widely considered the most versatile saber choice available, the single saber possesses three distinct stances (technically five, but two stances - Tavion and Desann - are only usable via cheats or modding), each with its own strengths and weaknesses. The single saber was the only usable saber type in previous Jedi Knight series games, making it a favorite of players with experience in Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast or even Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, though it has undergone significant overhaul since the Dark Forces era. Many single saberists use one particular stance as their dominant form, but all three can be used interchangeably at any time. A brief overview of each of the three stances is provided below.

[edit] Blue/Light/Fast Stance

Fast and dangerous, the blue stance utilizes short, quick movements of the saber to maximize quickness at the expense of power. Blue stance is the fastest saber form in the game, but is also the weakest, doing less damage per hit than any other style. Blue stance also has the weakest saber vs saber defense of any style, and is capable of being parried by all other styles in the game. Because of this, most players tend to refrain from extensive use of blue stance, though in the hands of a master, blue is capable of besting both of single's other two stances. Blue is also well suited for deflecting blaster attacks, or dispatching large numbers of very weak opponents in Single Player mode. Additionally, the secondary stance of the dual saber style is almost identical to single saber blue stance. In the scope of the Star Wars universe, blue stance seems to correspond to lightsaber Form III, or Soresu. Note that blue stance affords the user a maximum of thirteen consecutive attacks before requiring a brief cooldown period.

[edit] Yellow/Medium Stance

Considered the most balanced of the single saber stances, yellow is slower and stronger than blue, and faster and weaker than red. Because of this, yellow can be used as an effective counter to either of single saber's other two styles, making it the preferred stance for a number of single users. When used properly, yellow is even capable of defeated dual saber or saber staff styles, though this tends to depend on the nature of saber damages on any particular game server. In the Star Wars universe, yellow stance may correspond to the Niman or Makashi forms, depending on how the user employs it. Note that yellow stance affords the user a maximum of five consecutive attacks before requiring a brief cooldown period.

[edit] Red/Heavy/Strong Stance

Probably the most commonly used single saber stance, red stance is designed for one-on-one combat, utilizing slow but powerful strikes to cut through enemy defenses. Red stance can be effectively employed against any other saber stance, though its weakness in being the slowest stance in the game is often capitalized upon. On average, red stance attacks do the most damage per hit and have the greatest chance of parry, though, making it an exceptionally deadly stance once mastered. For those who use Red stance with a large number of jumps, aerial maneuvers, and other acrobatics, red style corresponds most closely to the Ataru form in Star Wars terminology; otherwise, red stance is most similar to the Djem So form, and some could argue that exceptionally skilled red users might even show something close to the Vaapad form. Note that red stance affords the user a maximum of three consecutive attacks before requiring a brief cooldown period.
